Racing Point's impressive pace in 2020 might have left several of their rival teams unhappy, but Lance Stroll is thoroughly enjoying having a car under him that is capable of mixing it with the top teams at the sharp end of the grid.
The Silverstone-based squad have been in the news more than any other team this year, after they were deducted 15 world championship points and fined €400,000 when FIA stewards upheld Renault’s protest about the legality of the design of the team’s RP20 car.
The team are appealing that decision – while Renault and Ferrari are also appealing it, unhappy that the team has been allowed to continue to run the disputed brake ducts on the car.
But protests and appeals aside, the RP20 is undoubtedly the most competitive car Stroll has had in his F1 career, and the Canadian is relishing the chance to show what he can do behind the wheel, as he explained to Lawrence Barretto in the video above.
“It’s been a pretty crazy year, but it’s good to be racing again," he said. "It’s great to be where we are, we have a very competitive package, we’ve scored some good points up to now, so a positive start to the season.
“We knew back in Barcelona at winter testing that we had a strong package, but it’s always relative to the others so you never really know until the first race.
“When we showed up to Austria we knew we had a strong package.
“I’m loving it. It’s [been] a great season up to now. The car feels great and it’s a pleasure to drive," he added.
Stroll also opened up on what he gets up to away from the race track – and touched on his dream of one day winning the world championship. Tap the video above the watch the full interview.
