AS IT HAPPENED: Can Russell make it 3 wins in a row in the Virtual Azerbaijan GP?

Given the difference in their respective machinery when it comes to real Formula 1 racing, it's safe to say we weren't expecting Ferrari's Charles Leclerc and Williams' George Russell to be fighting it out for championship honours this season, but that is the scenario we find ourselves in now – even if the championship in question is something of an unofficial one being played out in the world of virtual racing.

Leclerc was the early frontrunner in F1's Virtual Grand Prix series grabbing two wins in the first three races, but Russell has really taken the fight to the Ferrari man in recent weeks, picking up two wins on the bounce in the last two events.

And today the rivalry was renewed on the (virtual) streets of Baku and the drivers battled it out for victory in the Virtual Azerbaijan Grand Prix, on Codemasters' F1 2019 game.

With just two races to go before real Formula 1 racing begins at the Red Bull Ring in July, and just three points separating Leclerc and Russell, the heat was on for both to come out fighting in today's race.
