F1 heads into the penultimate back-to-back sequence of the 2022 season this weekend as the Circuit of The Americas (COTA) plays host to the United States Grand Prix – marking 10 years of the event in Austin.

Some 12 months ago, the venue witnessed a dramatic head-to-head between then title rivals Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton – the battle running from lights out all the way to the chequered flag.

Pole-sitter Verstappen initially fell behind Hamilton as the action got underway, only to reclaim the advantage with an undercut during the first round of pit-stops. However, a lengthy middle stint from Hamilton – giving him a tyre advantage late on – set up a nail-biting finale.

As the laps ticked down, Hamilton’s charging Mercedes drew closer and closer to Verstappen’s Red Bull, but the Dutchman had just enough in hand to take victory by the slender margin of 1.333 seconds – their nearest rivals more than half a minute adrift.
