The 2022 season has had its fair share of special moments, and as we edge past the halfway mark, we look back at Carlos Sainz's memorable maiden British Grand Prix victory in unrivalled detail.
The Scuderia driver took pole for the first time in his career on Saturday but lost the lead at the initial start to Max Verstappen, before staying ahead at the restart – after the race was red-flagged due to Zhou Guanyu's crash. But thanks to the Red Bull drivers’ issues and a Safety Car, Sainz was able to put on a set of soft tyres and make his way to the front, to win for the first time – on his 150th Grand Prix start.
Using exclusive team radio, Inside Story goes behind the scenes of one of the most entertaining races of the season, piecing together Sainz’s dramatic pursuit of victory at Silverstone.
From going wide and losing the lead to Verstappen, to being told to let team mate Charles Leclerc through and the heated conversations at the Safety Car restart, we get to hear Sainz, Leclerc and the Ferrari pit wall navigate a tricky race that led to the Spaniard standing on the top step of the podium for the first time in his Formula 1 career.
