WATCH: Vettel spin brings out red flags on Day 1 of the second week of testing

The second week of testing got underway at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya on Wednesday morning as the teams looked to pick up where they'd left off on Friday, and learn as much as possible about their new cars before the first race of the season next month.

It was looking like a productive day for Ferrari after a low-key showing last week, when they failed to produce any quick times as they concentrated on low power set-up runs in a bid to make sure they fully understood their new SF1000.

Sebastian Vettel was at the wheel for the first day of Week 2 and all was looking good after he completed over 50 laps in the morning – more than any other team bar Mercedes. But the German's running was interrupted just after 11am local time when he got it all wrong at Turn 8 and ran wide onto the gravel. He almost caught it, but after dropping a wheel onto the grass, he spun through 360 degress before limping back to the pits.

Because of the amount of gravel he dragged onto the track, the officials were forced to throw the red flag so they could deploy a road-sweeper truck to clear it all up, before the session resumed again. At the time of the spin, Vettel was third fastest, behind Lewis Hamilton and Racing Point's Lance Stroll.
