Wet tyre test brought forward to Wednesday
Formula One racing’s official tyre supplier Pirelli has brought forward its wet weather tyre evaluation day following overnight rain at the Jerez test venue.
The 2014 regulations state that one of the 12 pre-season test days must be dedicated to wet-weather tyre testing and whilst Friday had been earmarked for this purpose, damp conditions in Spain encouraged Pirelli to move the test to Wednesday.
Ahead of the day’s running, extra water was sprayed across the track surface to ensure the circuit stays wet enough to properly evaluate the new wet tyres, which have been given a new tread pattern and a different compound for 2014.
Aside from running wet tyres, teams are free to continue their own testing programmes throughout the day.
