Pirelli opt for aggressive tyre choice for Italy

Formula One racing's official tyre suppliers Pirelli have taken an aggressive approach to their tyre allocation for this year's Grand Prix at Monza, after revealing the compounds that will be used in Great Britain, Hungary, Belgium and Italy.

As was the case last year, the yellow-marked soft and white-marked medium tyres will be used for both the Hungaroring and Spa-Francorchamps, albeit for different reasons.

Pirelli have also elected to keep the same offerings for Monza - a change from last year, when the hard and medium tyres were made available. While it has been very unusual in recent years to see the same offerings in Hungary and Italy, Pirelli said the change would "open up interesting possibilities for race strategy".

For Silverstone meanwhile the hard and medium compounds will be utilised in order to handle the "fast and flowing circuit that puts plenty of energy through the tyres".

The Italian tyre manufacturer added that the high ambient temperatures often experienced in Hungary, and the need to offer consistency at Spa - the longest circuit on the current calendar - had influenced their choices for the respective races.

At a glance - tyre compounds for 2015:

Australia - soft, medium Malaysia - hard, medium China - soft, medium Bahrain - soft, medium
Spain - medium, hard Monaco - supersoft, soft Canada - supersoft, soft
Austria - supersoft, soft
Britain - medium, hard
Hungary - soft, medium
Belgium - soft, medium
Italy - soft, medium
