F1 NATION: A Carlos Sainz smooth operation and George Russell's heartbreak – it's our Singapore GP review
An incredible weekend in Singapore culminated with Carlos Sainz holding off Lando Norris and Mercedes’ George Russell and Lewis Hamilton to take victory. And as usual, our F1 Nation crew are on hand to review it all.
Tom Clarkson looks back on an exciting evening from the Marina Bay paddock, and he is joined by former McLaren driver and current Aston Martin Team Ambassador, Pedro de la Rosa, as well as Formula 1 reporter for German newspaper BILD, Silje Rulle.
They look back on the Grand Prix as they praise Sainz’s race management, the Spaniard having kept Lando Norris within his DRS range to help him keep the fast-charging Mercedes pair of George Russell and Lewis Hamilton at bay.
The crew give their verdict on whether it was his best performance for Ferrari, and what this means for his Scuderia team mate Charles Leclerc, who finished the race in fourth.
As well as that, they look at the evening from a McLaren and Mercedes perspective, as they analyse whether either team could have won the race – especially after the Silver Arrows’ decision to pit for the mediums under the Virtual Safety Car.

They also reflect on George Russell’s last-lap crash, assessing how the Briton would be feeling after his hopes of winning the race, or even finishing on the podium, ended in the barriers.
Singapore also saw both Aston Martin and Red Bull – whose run of 15 consecutive race wins ended at Marina Bay – take a step back in performance. The gang discuss what went wrong for both teams and whether they can bounce back in Japan next week.
