FACTS AND STATS: Verstappen passes Prost on wins, Alonso matches Prost on podiums

Another imperious performance in Brazil meant more records for Max Verstappen and Red Bull. But with three different teams on the Interlagos podium, there were plenty of other fascinating figures generated by the Sao Paulo race. Here’s our round-up of the highlights…

• Verstappen’s victory means Red Bull tie Mercedes’ 2016 record of 19 wins in a single season (in one less race).

• Red Bull also today broke Mercedes’ 2016 record for the most laps led in a season (1,055).

• Verstappen’s points lead over the second-placed driver in the standings is now bigger than Sebastian Vettel's entire points total when he won Red Bull's first World Championship in 2010 (256 points).

REPORT: Verstappen seals record 17th win of the season from Norris and Alonso in Sao Paulo Grand Prix

• Today was Verstappen’s 52nd career win, passing Alain Prost and moving him into fourth on the all-time list.

• It was also Verstappen’s 17th win of 2023, extending his own season record.

• Verstappen has only been beaten once in the last 16 Grands Prix (in Singapore).

• Lando Norris’s P2 finish for McLaren was his 13th career podium finish and ties him with Nick Heidfeld for the most podiums without winning a race (Patrick Depailler, Jean Alesi, Mika Hakkinen and Eddie Irvine all scored 15 before their first wins).

• It was the seventh podium finish of the season for Norris.

• Fernando Alonso took P3 for Aston Martin, beating Red Bull’s Sergio Perez to the line by 0.053s.

• Alonso today tied Alain Prost’s 106 career podium finishes (fourth on the all-time list)

• It was only Alonso’s second podium finish in the last 12 Grands Prix (after he scored six podium finishes in the first eight races this year).

• Alonso now has nine podium finishes at Interlagos without ever winning here – an all-time F1 record for a single circuit.

• It was his first Interlagos podium finish for 10 years.

• The result means Alonso retakes fourth position in the drivers' championship, leading Norris by three points and Carlos Sainz by six.

DRIVER OF THE DAY: Norris makes it a hat trick after barnstorming drive in Brazil

• After his P4 result Perez is now 32 points clear of Lewis Hamilton in the battle for second in the drivers' championship and he can now theoretically clinch the runner-up position at the next round in Las Vegas.

• Perez has raced at Interlagos more times than at any other circuit without ever finishing on the podium.

• Perez scored 18 points this weekend, having only scored 21 points in the previous five Grands Prix combined.

• Lance Stroll’s P5 for Aston Martin was his second top-five finish of the 2023 season and his first since Australia.

• Stroll’s previous best Interlagos finish was 10th in 2022.

• After finishing in P6 for Ferrari, Sainz has dropped behind Alonso and Norris in the drivers' championship.

• Pierre Gasly’s P7 finish for Alpine was his fourth top-seven finish in the last eight Grands Prix.

• Hamilton’s P8 for Mercedes was his worst Interlagos finish in the hybrid era.

• With P9 for AlphaTauri, Yuki Tsunoda took his first-ever points finish in a Grand Prix at Interlagos.

• Tsunoda has now scored 10 points in the last three race weekends (having scored just three in the first 17 races this season).

• Esteban Ocon finished 10th for Alpine for the second Grand Prix in a row.
