Famin shares Alpine project update after Eric Meignan’s appointment as power unit Technical Director
Alpine’s interim Team Principal, Bruno Famin, has offered the latest on the squad’s development after their most recent headline change, which sees Eric Meignan take responsibility for power unit operations.
Meignan’s switch from Ferrari to Alpine comes after a major mid-season reshuffle from the French brand, with Team Principal Otmar Szafnauer and Sporting Director Alan Permane both exiting and CEO Laurent Rossi moving aside.
Having also previously worked at Mercedes AMG High Performance Powertrains, Meignan assumes the day-to-day running of the Alpine power unit division at Viry-Chatillon in France, reporting directly into Famin.
Asked what Meignan will bring to Alpine, Famin said: “We’re very happy to welcome Eric in Viry and I think he will bring a lot because he’s a long, experienced guy in Formula 1.
“I think he will challenge our team. He’s coming at the right time to challenge our guys for preparing better the 2026 PU generation.
“I’m very confident that he will make a very good job with all the guys in Viry. He has started already and I think he will very quickly be operational.”
Asked if Meignan’s appointment frees him up to focus on other aspects of the team, Famin said: “For sure. I have quite a lot to focus on. It will be a strong support on the technical side.
“We have good technical guys in Viry already but I think to have a full-time, on-site Technical Director will really help everybody.”

On the chassis side, Matt Harman continues to lead the technical team following Pat Fry’s switch to Williams as their new Chief Technical Officer, while Julian Rouse is acting as interim Sporting Director.
Amid their off-track reshuffling, Alpine hold a lonely sixth position in the constructors’ standings, with a significant gap to Aston Martin in fifth and Williams in seventh.
