Haas Technical Director Simone Resta departs role after conclusion of loan arrangement

Haas Technical Director Simone Resta has left his role at the American outfit and Formula1.com understands he is returning to Ferrari, but not the F1 division.

Sources say Resta does not yet have a defined role at the Scuderia, who also operate a sportscar programme and automotive business out of their Maranello headquarters.

Resta – who was chief designer at Ferrari between 2014 and 2018 – joined Haas in 2021 on loan from Ferrari, having previously completed a stint leading the technical department at Alfa Romeo.

F1.com has learned his loan arrangement concluded at the end of 2023, triggering a return to Ferrari.

Guenther Steiner has also left as Haas Team Principal

His departure comes at a time of great upheaval for Haas, with Team Principal Guenther Steiner having left with immediate effect after leading the organisation since they entered F1 in 2016.

Steiner will be replaced by Director of Engineering Ayao Komatsu, however, it remains unclear who will replace Resta as the head of the technical department.

Haas are also on the look-out for a Chief Operating Officer to look after all non-competition matters and departments, including areas such as HR, admin, finance, marketing and communications.

It's just over a month until pre-season testing begins in Bahrain on February 21, with the first race of the season taking place at the same venue between February 29 and March 2.
