Max Verstappen came within a corner of claiming an all-important pole position for the inaugural Saudi Arabian Grand Prix, only to lose the back end of his Red Bull RB16B in Turn 27, clouting the wall and forcing the Dutchman to settle for P3.
That meant title rival Lewis Hamilton secured his second straight pole position – the first time he’s managed that feat this season – as he looks to prevent Verstappen being crowned champion this weekend.

Elsewhere, Carlos Sainz found himself out in Q2, the Spaniard suffering a wild half spin and damaging his rear wing on the barriers, only for a second moment to ruin his chances of a Q3 progression under the floodlights at the Jeddah Corniche Circuit.
