With victory in Miami, Austin and the new-for-2023 Las Vegas event, Verstappen became the first driver in F1 history to win three times in one country across a season.

He also racked up the most Sprint race wins in a season, with victories at Spielberg, Spa-Francorchamps, Austin and Interlagos eclipsing Valtteri Bottas’ two from 2021.

Hat-tricks of pole position, race win and fastest lap in Spain, Austria, Britain, Japan, Qatar and Abu Dhabi put Verstappen one clear of Alberto Ascari (1952) and Michael Schumacher (2004) in the all-time list.

He also made the most pit stops by a winning driver in one race, boxing six times in a rain-hot encounter on his home soil at Zandvoort – equalling Jenson Button’s tally from the 2011 Canadian Grand Prix.

After twice being beaten by team mate Sergio Perez in the opening four races, Verstappen hit form to rack up 10 consecutive race wins from Miami to Italy, which beat Sebastian Vettel’s previous record of nine set in 2013.

A dozen of Verstappen’s victories came from pole position, beating Nigel Mansell and Vettel’s benchmark of nine from 1992 and 2011 respectively.

In total, Verstappen amassed 19 wins, and while there are more races these days, Verstappen’s record across 22 events gave him a return of 86.3%, more than 10% clear of the next-best percentage from Ascari.

Red Bull were so close to making it a perfect score, with the RB19 only failing to win at the Singapore Grand Prix. Again, even though there are more races these days, Red Bull’s return of 21 wins from 22 gives them a return of 95.4%, which beat the iconic McLaren MP4/4 from 1988 (15 out of 16 races and a 93.7% return).

Singapore also marked the only race of the season where Verstappen failed to finish on the podium, marking a record 21 rostrum appearances and a return of 95.4%. Michael Schumacher had a 100% return in 2002 with 17 podiums from 17 races.

Verstappen’s whopping advantage over Perez was the biggest title-winning margin for a driver in the sport’s history, beating Vettel’s lead of 155 points over Alonso in 2013 and the Dutchman’s own lead of 146 over Charles Leclerc in 2022.

In addition to Verstappen, Red Bull’s title-winning margin of 451 points over Mercedes was the most for a constructor. Next on the list are Mercedes’ leads over Red Bull in 2016 (297) and 2014 (296).

Verstappen’s final tally of 575 points – out of a possible 620 – was also the most in a season for a driver. In percentage terms, given the different points systems in place over the years, Verstappen was still behind a host of drivers from the 1950s and 1960s – Ascari achieving a perfect score in 1952 (36/36) and Clark in 1963 (54/54) and 1965 (54/54).

Following the trend, Red Bull collected the most points as a team over the course of the campaign. That beat Mercedes’ 765 from 2016 and Red Bull’s own 759 from 2022.

Verstappen put the icing on the cake by completing more than 1,000 laps in the race lead at the Abu Dhabi season finale. With 1,003 out of 1,325 laps led, he found himself at the front 75% of the time, with Vettel’s 739 out of 1,133 laps from 2011 the next best number.
