Perez reveals striking new helmet for maiden Red Bull campaign in 2021

Just hours after Red Bull unveiled the RB16B that will be driven by Max Verstappen and team newcomer Sergio Perez in 2021, Perez himself showed off the flashy helmet design that he’ll wear this season, in what will be his first year with the squad.

The helmet sees Perez revert back to his traditional neon yellow colour palette – which he was unable to use at Force India and Racing Point due to sponsor commitments – while of course featuring the Mexican flag integrated around the Red Bull logo.

“I’ve been looking forward to this moment ever since I signed to Red Bull – obviously the helmet is something very special for the driver,” said Perez.

“Yellow has been always my colour. I had in the past to keep it pink, so now I’m pleased to finally go back to a yellow helmet. And we’ve got the [Mexican] flag on top, which is very nice because you can see it when I’m driving on the onboard camera.

“Another special touch is I put the ‘Never Give Up’ on the back. Every time I put the helmet on, I can see it, which is just a reminder not to give up at all.

“I have to say I’m extremely pleased with my helmet. It’s definitely my most favourite helmet in my career. I’ve done plenty of helmets but this one to me is very special.”

The new design comes after Red Bull’s shock decision in December to sign Perez to take the place of Alex Albon alongside Verstappen for 2021, the decision coming just a few weeks after the Mexican claimed his maiden Formula 1 victory at the Sakhir Grand Prix with Racing Point.

Meanwhile, following on from the RB16B’s reveal, Perez was set to spend the day in a 2019-spec Red Bull RB15 on Tuesday to help him get up to speed with Red Bull’s systems ahead of the shakedown of the new car on Wednesday. The drivers will then be back in action for pre-season testing at the Bahrain International Circuit on March 12-14 – followed by the season opening Bahrain Grand Prix on March 28.
