Frederik Vesti could hardly have chosen a better time to put on his best performance in Formula 3, taking his second win of the season, and with it, clinching the teams' championship for PREMA Racing, with a round to spare on home soil.

The Dane had started the day back in ninth place, but slowly picked off those starting in front of him, before dispatching race leader Theo Pourchaire with just two laps to go.

The Italian team's win wasn’t the only movement in the Championship, as the drivers’ title changed hands for the third time in two rounds. Renault junior Oscar Piastri had started the day all the way back in P15, as one of nine drivers to receive hefty grid penalties post-qualifying.

MONZA, ITALY - SEPTEMBER 05: Race winner Frederik Vesti of Denmark and Prema Racing, second placed

Race winner Frederik Vesti of Denmark and Prema Racing, second placed Theo Pourchaire of France and ART Grand Prix and third placed Oscar Piastri of Australia and Prema Racing celebrate on the podium during race one of the Formula 3 Championship at Autodromo di Monza

The PREMA driver made up a mega 12 places and stole a podium spot on the penultimate lap to retake first place in the title fight from his team mate Logan Sargeant.

Sargeant suffered a disastrous race, finishing 26th after contact from Clement Novalak spun him off track.

Starting towards the back, Sargeant will have it all to do in Race 2 on Sunday at 0945 (local time), if he is to avoid losing further ground to Piastri in the race for the crown.
