Sainz offers initial reaction to Hamilton’s Ferrari deal with message for fans
Carlos Sainz has taken to social media to comment on the news that he will be leaving Ferrari at the end of the season after the Italian marque swooped to sign Lewis Hamilton in his place.
Hamilton and Ferrari blew the F1 driver market wide open on Thursday with the announcement that the seven-time world champion will be leaving Mercedes for the Scuderia in 2025.
ANALYSIS: Why Hamilton decided now was the time to jump from Mercedes to Ferrari
It means Sainz, who has raced alongside Charles Leclerc at Ferrari since the 2021 season, will need to move elsewhere on the grid to continue his journey in the sport beyond the end of this year.
“Following today’s news, Scuderia Ferrari and myself will part ways at the end of 2024,” Sainz wrote on his social media channels on Thursday evening.
“We still have a long season ahead of us and, like always, I will give my absolute best for the team and for the tifosi all around the world.”
He signed off that “news about my future will be announced in due course”.
Sainz made his F1 debut with Toro Rosso back in 2015, spending almost three seasons aboard Red Bull’s sister squad before making moves to Renault and then McLaren.
DRIVER MARKET: What options do Mercedes have after Hamilton’s dramatic Ferrari move?
With the first podiums of his career achieved while at Woking, Sainz took the next steps in his career when he secured a move to Ferrari for 2021, landing his first pole position and Grand Prix victory at Silverstone a year later.
He has since added four more poles and another win, the latest coming in Singapore last season, when he clinched the only non-Red Bull triumph of 2023.
