Sargeant reveals biggest lesson he took from rookie season as he picks out highlight

Logan Sargeant has taken a moment to reflect on his maiden F1 season with Williams, sharing the biggest learning he will take into the winter and choosing the highlight that stands out above the rest.

Sargeant was one of three rookie drivers to line up on the 2023 grid, joining McLaren’s Oscar Piastri and AlphaTauri’s Nyck de Vries, who was replaced by Daniel Ricciardo mid-season.

A rollercoaster campaign for the 22-year-old American – who arrived as a Formula 4, Formula 3 and Formula 2 race winner – brought a fair share of mistakes and crashes, but also gradual progression as the year went by.

With 22 Grands Prix behind him, Sargeant pinpointed the need to be on his A game at every turn as the main difference compared to his days climbing up the motorsport ladder.

“I think the biggest thing for me is appreciating the level of effort that needs to go into it to be able to perform at such a level every single day,” he said.

“You can get away with [it] on a semi-average day in junior formulas, you’re still right at the front, whereas here, that’s not the case.

“It’s about trying to constantly be able to perform at that level, day in and day out, and I think that’s been the biggest thing.”

As for the best moment from the season gone by, Sargeant was asked what meant more to him – scoring a point for the first time in Austin or securing seventh on the grid in Las Vegas.

“Definitely the quali in Vegas, for sure,” he commented, despite race day not yielding any points for Williams as they slipped back down the order.

“I think to be able to finally put it together over three qualifying sessions was really nice, helped by the fact we had a quick car in Vegas, but that was definitely my highlight.”

Sargeant’s point, added to the 27 scored by team mate Alex Albon, saw Williams rise to seventh in the 2023 constructors’ standings, beating AlphaTauri, Alfa Romeo and Haas.
