Button's championship-winning Brawn to return to action

The Brawn BGP 001 with which Jenson Button won the world championship in 2009 will return to action for the first time later this year when it takes to the hill at the UK's Goodwood Festival of Speed.

Armed with the Mercedes-powered car, Button was victorious in six Grands Prix and claimed three other podiums en route to the title, and it’s the exact chassis he raced - now owned by former team boss Ross Brawn - that will be demonstrated at the June 23-26 event.

“I’m absolutely delighted that one of only three Brawn BGP 001s built is coming to the Festival of Speed,” Brawn told Goodwood’s website.

“I’ve had chassis 002, which is the very car Jenson Button used throughout his world title-winning season in 2009, in my collection since that time and can’t wait for it to turn a wheel under its own power for the first time since that incredible season.

"The car was stripped and rebuilt before I took it and has been rarely seen in public since then.

“Some of the mechanics who worked on the car in period are giving up their time to help run it.”

In total Brawn won eight Grands Prix in 2009, with Rubens Barrichello adding a pair of victories to Button's tally to help the team claim an unlikely championship double.
