There was no catching Oscar Piastri up front as the McLaren star gave the team in papaya their first-ever Bahrain victory, but behind the young Australian it was action aplenty. That meant plenty of fascinating numbers for us to crunch post-race. Here’s just a few of the highlights…
• Piastri’s win was McLaren’s first-ever victory in Bahrain, coming on their 22nd visit.
• McLaren had only led eight laps ever in Bahrain before today, and none since 2007 (with Lewis Hamilton).

• It was also his 30th consecutive point-scoring race weekend.
• Every race this year has been won from pole.
• Piastri’s winning margin was the largest of the season (15.499s).
McLaren finally achieved that long-awaited triumph in Sakhir
• P2 was George Russell’s best career finish in Bahrain and the Mercedes driver’s best finish of the 2025 season to date.
• It was also his 14th consecutive points finish (a career best run).
• With Lando Norris in P3 for McLaren, it meant Mercedes power units locked out the podium for the 19th time in their history, only two races after they achieved it in China.
• Passing Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc for third in the closing laps kept Norris in the lead of the Drivers’ Championship.
