Max Verstappen was at his brilliant best as he returned to winning ways at this weekend’s Japanese Grand Prix, taking his 13th victory of the season, and sealing a sixth constructors’ title for his Red Bull team.
Verstappen came under pressure from both Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris at the start of the race but held both McLaren drivers off before driving off into the distance to win by over 19 seconds.
Norris wound up second ahead of Piastri – who finished on the podium for the first time in his F1 career, with Charles Leclerc coming home in fourth as the lead Ferrari, ahead of his team mate Carlos Sainz in sixth.
Lewis Hamilton was fifth for Mercedes, with the Briton the lead Mercedes ahead of George Russell in seventh. Fernando Alonso was eighth for Aston Martin, while the Alpine pair of Esteban Ocon and Pierre Gasly rounded out the top-10.
Only 15 drivers finished the race in Suzuka, as both Williams drivers Alex Albon and Logan Sargeant, as well as Lance Stroll, Valtteri Bottas, and Sergio Perez retired from the race – Perez briefly returned to the track in his repaired RB19 to serve a five-second time penalty.
