Red Bull’s Max Verstappen was only fourth fastest, having taken a wild trip through the gravel in Q1, with Oscar Piastri winding up fifth in his McLaren and Nico Hulkenberg starring en route to sixth for Haas.
There were surprises earlier in the session when the other Red Bull of Sergio Perez spun out of Q1 after switching to slicks on a still-damp track, followed by Charles Leclerc falling at the Q2 hurdle in his Ferrari.
