The margin between Verstappen and George Russell’s identical pole position-worthy lap times during qualifying for the Canadian Grand Prix, a closely-fought session that highlighted the growing competition that Verstappen would face. As Russell set his lap first, the Mercedes man started from pole – but Verstappen ultimately went on to win what proved to be an eventful wet/dry Grand Prix.

How many other drivers have also achieved four world championships, making Verstappen only the sixth man to do so. His tally of four titles puts him on equal terms with Alain Prost and Sebastian Vettel, while Juan Manuel Fangio is ahead on five and Michael Schumacher and Lewis Hamilton remain at the top as the two names to triumph seven times.

Team mate Sergio Perez’s challenging season saw him take 152 points in comparison.
