Ricciardo completes 115 laps of the Red Bull Ring as Renault prepare for 2020 season start
The Formula 1 season is finally set to kick off next month with the Austrian Grand Prix on July 5, and in anticipation of the delayed start the teams and drivers have been blowing off the cobwebs with track runs in new and old machinery.
Testing rules prevent the teams from doing unrestricted running in their current cars so several have been running older-spec models to allow both the race team personnel and the drivers are chance to get back into the rhythm ahead of the return to competition next month.
Last week Lewis Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas both drove the 2018 Mercedes at Silverstone, and Ferrari have a similar test planned for their drivers Charles Leclerc and Sebastian Vettel before racing resumes.
And on Tuesday Daniel Ricciardo was back in the cockpit, completing 115 laps of the Red Bull Ring in Renault's 2018 R.S.18 car, with team mate Esteban Ocon set to take over today.
After the run around the track which will host the first two races of the revised 2020 season, Ricciardo posted a short clip of him in the car on his Instagram page with the message: "Remembered what driving fast felt like today. It was fun. Cool. Alright. Cya later."
With Ocon taking over driving duties today, Ricciardo will be back at the circuit with the rest of the drivers for the Austrian Grand Prix on July 5.
